I believe that every person has within them the potential to make a difference.
In me wanting to become a member of the Nicholas Rey Foundation Trust I have taken a step forward into making a differce in someone’s life, and in doing so I have also recognized Ricky Smit dedication and enthusiasm for making such a difference.
I was invited to join the events of the Foundation last year at the Spring Gala in Cullinan at the Diamond X Ranch, I was excited at the invitation but had no idea how much I would want to become a member of the Foundation.
Sitting at my beautifully adorned table listening to how it had all started and the impact the Foundation was already having on lives, a swell of emotion swept over me.
I thought to myself, “I cannot sit here and feel so much for something and not want to become a part of it.”
It was this thought that kept dogging me to do something about it. All to often we have surges of empathy for something that we have bore witness to, but once the image of that person or situation has left our minds, that empathetic feeling is all but lost and our minds are consumed by our daily routines.
I just could not let that happen again, and the images of Nicholas Rey before and after his tragic accident were imprinted on my memory, Dennis East’s song did not help much in me holding back my tears either.
I knew I had to take that leap of faith and contact Ricky Smit, and find out how I could become apart of such a unique foundation.
After finally sending of an email to Ricky, thanking her for the wonderful opportunity to be a part of the activities on that day I also asked her what I could do for the foundation.
The mail was sent, and I spent every minute of every day with baited breath waiting on her response. It came and I was delighted to hear that Ricky was all too happy for me to become a part of the Foundation.
